THINNING OF THE VEILS: unleashing the preternatural muse

The October show for the EVAA is a themed show that I have been wanting to do for a while - when the idea was coalescing artist friends I spoke with were all excited about the theme.

The fall season is rich with holidays, festivals & celebrations . . . the natural world is coming to the end of the growing cycle and beginning to turn in and prepare for the winter. The fall colors and changing of the light and temperature inspires us to turn in, contemplate the changes of the past year, and remember those who have gone before. The ancients believed that this is when the veils between the worlds of the living and the dead are the thinnest.

The fall is a time to turn in and settle, just as the plants root deeper into the earth . . . although inside my studio the settling in is taking the form of a couple of new inter-related series . . . many pieces have been started - and it is very exciting to see them take shape and move towards completion.

Women's History Project 2009 Web Site

The 2009 Women's History Project (WHP) website is up!

You can go there to see images of art made for this year's theme
"Reconnecting with the Rhythms of the Earth", and link to the
International Women's Day website - where you can find listings for
IWD events happening around the world - including one in Avon Colorado!

This evening Kendra Doepken delivered her art for the show
- it is much more beautiful in person than the digital image shows - it is on handmade paper!

Now that the site has been up and the artists have gotten a preview of the show everyone is excited for the hanging.

The 2nd annual show hangs this Sunday - should be quite a festive morning with all of the art and a bunch of the artists coming together . . . .Here's to another great celebration of Women's History Month (that lasts for 3 months).
